Visit Oskar Schindler's Factory
The former Oskar Schindler's Factory, located in Krakow, is today a museum that documents the history of Krakow under Nazi occupation and tells the story of Schindler and the people he saved. Oskar Schindler, a German businessman, is remembered worldwide for his courage in saving more than 1,000 Jewish workers from death during the Holocaust by having them work in his enamel factory.
Schindler’s Factory Museum
The museum, officially the Schindler’s Factory Museum (Muzeum Fabryka Emalia Oskara Schindlera), is part of the Historical Museum of Kraków and is housed in the original factory on Lipowa Street. The permanent exhibition, entitled “Kraków Under Nazi Occupation 1939-1945” takes visitors through everyday life in Kraków during the war, including life in the ghetto and the hardships of the Jewish community. Schindler’s office and parts of Schindler's factory have been preserved and furnished with original objects and photographs, giving visitors an impression of the events that took place there.
The museum's exhibition combines historical information, personal stories and multimedia exhibits. Visitors can explore Schindler's Factory, which highlights the dark side of the occupation as well as Schindler's brave efforts to save lives.
